Family and portrait photography Hawaii
Every family has a story…welcome to ours…” in Hawaii
When my brother called in September of 2014 and told us of his plan to propose to his Girlfriend I was so incredibly excited! He then asked if I could capture it behind the camera and then it got even better when he said he was doing it in Hawaii! Overwhelmed and honoured at the prospect of being able to photograph my little brothers proposal to his future wife, I was also excited at the thought of our whole family being in Hawaii where our parents story as husband and wife began 35 years ago. Yes we didn’t have much time to plan, to save money but in this instance money didn’t matter at all. This was to be a trip of a lifetime…a trip to remember always…a trip to create precious family memories and there was no way we were going to miss out on that!
So off we went to Hawaii on the 4th of December and Tristan along with us which just made it all that much more special. We spent our first week on the Island of Oahu on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. We rented a van and drove around the island making the most of it. Here are some of our memories on this island…
Waikiki Beach
FOOD TRUCK!!! Wiki Wiki Java! Out of this world!
View from Lanikai Beach. My favourite beach on Oahu
A day at the Polynesian Centre
From an amazing week on Oahu we jetted off to Maui! My parents rented and amazing condo near the beach in Kihei. We spent 2 incredible weeks exploring the island, chilling on our local beach and discovering new ones, snorkelling, BBQ’ing, onvespas ( which was on my bucket list! Scott and I spent the day zooming on our vespas, eating at food trucks and discovering lava fields! ) and the most incredible of all experiences…swimming with Turtles. To put this experience into words is hard. It’s one of those moments where all thoughts and worries disappear…where it’s just you and this amazing turtle in the water and time seems to slow down to take it all in and memorise every moment spent with this peaceful and beautiful animal. I was addicted. All I wanted to do was swim with the turtles on our local beach. One day after a morning of snorkelling in 4 different spots with Scott, him and I headed off to our local beach to snorkel some more. It was quiet on the beach that day and I think the Turtles realised this as well. One of them came out of the water to chill on the rocks and munch on seaweed. I sat right beside him for a while just chilling out him and I. He didn’t mind my presence and I was amazed by his. One of those once in a lifetime experiences which I am thanking this trip for!
On top of some of these amazing moments was my brothers proposal to his girlfriend which was the cherry on top of our trip! Have a peek at how it went down here!
Watching the sunrise at the top of Haleakala. This was one of the top moments of Tristan’s trip and to have shared this with him was incredible. It was bloody cold though…but worth it. We went from watching shooting stars peacefully and making wishes to feeling alive and full of love for life when we watched that sunrise…
Red Sand Beach…or so we thought and we shall keep on thinking it was! hehe! but here is Koki Sand Beach
My parents in the distance enjoying the beauty…who said romance was dead!
The most amazing picnic setting ever…
LOVED this coffee shop, Memphis Belle
set off to watch the sunset on our local beach, Kamaole Beach III
An afternoon in Lahaina. My parents used to eat breakfast in the same place every day for a month during their honeymoon. That special place is now Baba Gump’s! My dad felt the need to walk around the restaurant 3 times haha!
“Live Simply, Laugh Often, Love Deeply” We all lived by this on our 3 week adventure on the most beautiful Islands in this world. Thank you Hawaii!
