Romantic Canadian engagement shoot in Dumfriesshire Scotland.

When the sun shines and it’s actually warm… for one day… we have to thank them for bringing the sun all the way from Canada for this shoot.

When Joyce an Dave enquired with us all the way from Vancouver I was so excited. Fellow Canadian with her Scottish beau visiting his family and discovering Scotland for the first time. Sounds oddly familiar but throw it back 15 years! That makes us sound so old.

Dave is from Lochmaben so we decided to head down their way and take advantage of some different sights. Caerlaverock Castle was our meeting point and it did not disappoint. A medieval stronghold with a fairytale appearance with its beautiful turrets. As you walk into the castle it’s even more breathtaking with beautiful stonework, many windows and doorways and arches. I think this is a pretty epic first castle to visit for Joyce since it was a first for her. I know for us as a family we will certainly be back with Louie as he adores castles.

As we snapped some photos of these two we also took in the history by clueing up on it’s past and what it would have been like as a functioning castle and home. We had such a lovely time and felt like we had known them forever. Sometimes we just walk into shoots and make new friends which is what happened to us here again. Following the shoot, we grabbed something to drink from the café and sat in the sun and chatted away for a good hour. It was such a lovely end to a great afternoon.

We have had quite a few couples over the years traveling to Scotland who booked in for a photo session. We absolutely love seeing Scotland through new eyes again and capturing that excitement, wonderment and romance. Scotland is such a beautiful country so capturing memories during what may be a very special trip is an honour.
