A Wedding Close to Our Hearts

As husband-and-wife photographers behind The Gibsons Photography, we always love getting to capture love stories that feel personal — but Stephanie and Luke’s wedding had an extra special connection for us.

I’m Canadian, and Scott is Scottish, so naturally, we absolutely loved that Stephanie, the bride, is Scottish while Luke, the groom, is Canadian. It felt like such a beautiful reflection of our own story, making this wedding even more meaningful to photograph.

However, that wasn’t the only connection that made this day feel extra special.

Stephanie and Luke live in Regina, Saskatchewan — the very province my mum is from — which instantly added another layer of excitement and nostalgia for me. There was something so lovely about seeing little pieces of Canada woven into a celebration taking place right here in Scotland.

Canadian Spirit Meets Scottish Charm

From the very beginning, this wedding felt like a perfect blend of two places, two cultures, and two families coming together.

Not only were guests travelling from all over Canada — including Bowen Island, Winnipeg, and, of course, Regina — but they blended so effortlessly with the Scottish and English guests, creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

In many ways, it truly felt like capturing a Canadian wedding on Scottish soil.

And then came one of our favourite details…

Those Cowboy Hats!

Man, did they ever bring it with the cowboy hats!

Of course, there was no way we weren’t going to incorporate those into the photographs. Not only did they add such a fun and personal touch to the day, but they also brought a little piece of Canadian personality into the Scottish setting.

As photographers, we absolutely love when couples bring meaningful details into their wedding because it helps tell their story in such an authentic way — and these hats definitely became part of Stephanie and Luke’s.

Always a Joy to Photograph at Òran Mór

Finally, a huge thank you, as always, to the wonderful staff at Òran Mór. It is always such a pleasure working there, and they helped make the day flow seamlessly from beginning to end.

Stephanie and Luke, thank you for allowing us to capture such a joyful celebration. Your wedding was full of heart, laughter, and so many meaningful connections — the perfect mix of Canada and Scotland in one unforgettable day.
