Looking for decor ideas? Well, here are some hints and tips!
Using some of our favourite photos of 2017 perhaps this kick start your research into what really makes your heart sing and what makes you really excited. Research should always be your first go to as it will make you see what you are leaning towards and what you love. Also what showcases who you are as a couple.
How to start? Here are some tips
- Go through wedding photographers blogs or through some real weddings on dedicated wedding blogs
- Pick up some magazines and cut out what jumps at you and start a mood board. Nothing beats an old fashion creative project!
- Don’t fancy cutting up magazines? check out Pinterest! You will not be disappointed…in fact you may become slightly obsessed. Check out our Pinterest page here to get you started.
Colour Scheme
What colours make your heart sing? what colours are in fashion in the year you get married? Check out Pantone here. They are always ahead in knowing which colours will be in. This will actually help with everything coming together cohesively and in an organic way. Often all suppliers are geared up for the colours of the year so this helps a lot with your planning even down to the album cover to match if you are getting an album.
Create a Budget and try sticking to it
It’s very easy to get carried away with the decor and little bits and pieces. Try and not get too carried away. At the end of the day yes you want your day to look amazing but it only lasts for that one day. A lot of people seem to get their budgets wrong keeping their smallest budget for the photographer which in reality is probably the BIGGEST mistake any couple can do. Of course, as photographers, we are biased but don’t take this as a way for us to make more money. We speak the truth. What will you be left with after your wedding day? It’s a simple answer really. Your wedding photographs and they will last a lifetime and more.
Take advantage of your venues features
Walk around your venue and think up ways to use their features to decorate. Remember to always ask if you are allowed to do something before you jump into it though! We also highly recommend getting the amazing duo that is Natalie and Laura from Lemonbox studios. They are as lovely as they are talented and they are sure to come up with unique decor ideas to fit around your chosen venue. We did an incredible shoot with them at Springkell House which is still one of our favourite collaborations. Check it out here!
Bloom Goodness
Think outside the box with your florist. Doesn’t have to be the usual floral centrepieces. Get creative! Have some fun with it. Florists are doing such incredible works of art these days which is so incredible to see and photograph. Have a peek at this amazing styled shoot we did last year as an example of just that. I mean that floral archway created by A curious arrangement is incredible. Pop on over to see it here.
Blank Canvas
Style to your heart’s content to turn it into something incredible. However, be careful with that budget as this can be where you end up going over. Blank canvas’s can be quite costly for that one simple reason. Here is a great example of one of our lovely 2016 couples. The bride loves trees (like me! hehe) so the decor was based around this. Laura from LFT Events did an incredible job! Have a peek here.
Off the walls
Your wedding decor does not always need to be sitting on a table or on the ground. Look above and think how that can be transformed. FUN is what I think “off the walls”. Get inspired here with this wee Pinterest search I did. I mean amazing right? I bet you are just buzzing with ideas now.
How fun is this bike for a Wizzard of Oz themed wedding?!
Simplicity
You can never go wrong with keeping things simple. Don’t overdo it. Think tasteful.
LOVED this Harry Potter Themed wedding! I mean this sweet table is off the hook good!
Lighting
This is very important. It is also important to the outcome of your photos as well! There is so much choice for this but again it has to fit into your wedding venue and what you can and cannot do. We love all types of fairy lights and this fairy light canopy from GB Soundz is beautiful!
At the end of the day create something that you dreamed of and love but also within reason and your capabilities finance wise. There are many home projects you can do as well which can add to the fun of the wedding planning as well. You can turn it into evenings with friends! Wine and crafting! How awesome does that sound? If you do this I’d even be excited to join in haha!
There is so much advice and ideas you can find on the ever incredible internet these days. Attached are a few fun articles with fun ideas on how to turn that wedding venue into something your guests will always remember and something we will love to capture (haha!).
Bright and Beautiful Venue Styling
Ideas by seasons
The fun thing about looking through all these ideas is noting down what you love and then turning it into something that is a bit different from that original idea and true to who you are as a couple. Always make sure to keep to that starting point of why this day is happening in the first place. From there you will always make sure that what you do is a reflection of the both of you and not something that is on show but reminds you and your guests of why you are all gathered together on that day. A wedding is so special so keep it that way.
